WINTOUR’S LEAP II, RIVER WYE
Gesso and acrylic on 300lb cotton paper.
56cm x 76cm
This painting was inspired from a circular walk from Chepstow to Lancault, along the banks of the river Wye. It is in a group of four paintings. This is the second version from Wintour’s Leap.
In this composition I was interested in emphasising the feeling of the river carving the interlocking shapes of the cliffs and hills. To capture this enhanced sense of interlocking shapes I felt it was necessary to work from memory rather than looking at sketches or the first painting.
I started the painting using my fingers dipped in gesso to physically build up and carve the land and flowing river.
