ST JAMES CHURCH, RIVER WYE I
Gesso and acrylic on 300lb cotton paper.
76cm x 56cm
This painting was inspired from a circular walk from Chepstow to Lancault, along the banks of the river Wye. It is in a group of four paintings. In this painting I felt that the ruined church was like a button, anchoring the (upholstered) landscape.
This painting was also inspired by the feeling of movement from the blustery wind and implacable flowing of the river.
There is a second version of St James Church and two paintings from Wintour’s Leap, which are the cliffs in the distance.
