This is a painting study of a c23,000 years BP bas relief carving in the Abri du Poisson, Dordogne. I have long been interested in pre-historic paintings and carvings. One of the aspects I love about cave art is the porous nature of the figure and ground.
In art there is the idea of an object being defined by a line, an edge, but if this line/edge is interrupted then there is ambiguity between the object and the surface it is drawn on.
