FROM SEA LEVEL TO SUMMIT,
THE BLACK MOUNTAIN
Gesso and acrylic on 300lb cotton paper.
56cm x 76cm
I was near the summit of The Black Mountain, Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) I could see The Gower peninsular to the south and daydreamed about walking from a beach all the way up to the summit of The Black Mountain. It would feel like a pilgrimage.
I have represented this distance by painting the horizons from The Gower to the summit, hanging like veils off the summit. My shadow is often part of my compositions, a memento of my presence in the landscape.
